County Jail Key Trail – Success Story
A large, new County Juvenile Detention Center was being built in a major metropolitan area. The old facility had been in its location for close to 50 years and the current key control system consisted of a flimsy metal cabinet mounted to the wall in the warden’s office. Software with features that would track who had access to what key and for how long were non-existent due to the age of the system and building. The head of the newly built and almost completed multi-million-dollar facility wanted no part of such inadequate and ineffective key control. They needed a solution that in his words would provide a “key trail”, something to audit who had which key and for how long. The goal was to open the new County Juvenile Detention Center with effective key control, be able to assign keys, assign access to specific keys during certain times, and keep up with every key in the new facility.

The Solution
A Key Systems Security Asset Manager (SAM), would certainly do everything the County Juvenile Detention Center needed and more. After providing a demonstration and showing all the features that our GFMS software was capable of… they were sold. We installed a 96 position SAM which would allow room for growth in the future and trained the jail staff on the system.
Outcome
After the SAM had been successfully installed and the appropriate administrators and users were trained, they were very satisfied. The new, multi-million-dollar facility was now equipped with a key control system which included a “key trail”. The key system also sends a notification if someone has not returned their assigned key(s) at a specific time, which was very important for the facility. The new County Juvenile Detention center was now equipped with the industry’s leading key control system.
